At 35 weeks pregnant, we found out Ethan had a severe narrowing of the aorta along with a large ventricular septal defect (VSD). At 37 weeks, labor was induced at Ste-Justine so he could get surgery right away. Within 5 minutes of being born, he was admitted to the NICU.
He was supposed to undergo surgery the following week, but tragically at just 6 days old he caught a serious bacterial infection that lasted two weeks. Those weeks were filled with fear, daily hospital visits, and exhausting 3-hour round trips from home. But we were never without the support of an incredible team.
Finally, at 3 weeks old, Ethan underwent surgery with Dr. Poirier at Ste-Justine — truly an angel sent from above. Today, he is 3 and a half years old, full of energy, and every day we feel grateful to be part of the “En Cœur” family with its ongoing follow-ups and support.
We feel so lucky to see him thrive and shine day after day.
