I was referred to the pediatric cardiology department at the age of 10. My pediatrician heard a murmur. Following tests, Dr. Guay and Dr. Delisle told my parents that an operation would be too risky (in 1976). It was at the age of 33, following a team meeting, that the CHUL team proposed the operation. It was pediatric surgeon Dr. Paul Cartier who successfully corrected my CIA. A new life! The CHUL team, particularly Dr. Jean-Marc Côté, monitored me every 6 months to check on the evolution of a leak in my mitral valve. It was pediatric surgeon Dr. Jean Perron who repaired (in 2003) and replaced (in 2019) this valve. Since then, all has been well. I am followed at the IUCPQ in the adult congenital cardiology clinic. Over the years, I have also had my three babies’ hearts checked during my pregnancies. It is thanks to all these follow-ups that I have been able to live such an active life. I have often witnessed all the excellent work done by the En Cœur Foundation. I recently retired after a successful career teaching kindergarten. 35.5 beautiful years thanks to all this precious care.
En Coeur will always be MY cause. I love giving and getting involved at the 6 H En Coeur!
