Jackson was born with what’s commonly called a heart murmur. Thankfully, a very attentive resident doctor picked up on that subtle sound, despite the rapid heartbeat typical of newborns.
Further cardiology exams revealed a significant atrial septal defect (ASD). On February 4th, an ultrasound confirmed the defect was too large to leave untreated — it could have been life-threatening. On February 20th, at just 8 months old, Jackson underwent open-heart surgery. Dr. Jacques successfully closed the ASD, but Jackson had to spend 9 days in intensive care, battling pulmonary hypertension.

Those days were filled with anxiety, but also deep gratitude: the medical team was outstanding, and the volunteers from the En Cœur Foundation were a real comfort to our worried hearts. Their moral support, their kindness, and their listening ears helped us get through this journey with a bit more light.
Today, Jackson still lives with other heart conditions that will likely require further interventions, as is often the case with cardiac children. But he radiates resilience. His strength is extraordinary — just like so many children with fragile hearts, yet immense courage.
To all parents walking this path: know that you are stronger than you think, and every single day is a small victory. A fragile heart can hide tremendous strength.
