Learning that their child has a heart disease, that their health is fragile and that they will therefore always be different is a shock for many parents. True to its mission “to support children with heart disease and their families,” En Cœur has set up a reception service in a hospital setting to provide parents with on-site support.
This service is offered since May 2012 at the Centre mère-enfant Soleil in Quebec City.
A team of 6 volunteers offers a reassuring presence for children in the hospital, but also for parents whose children are hospitalized or awaiting surgery.
Their role is to offer support and accompaniment as well as to share information, for example by providing the book “Young at Heart”.
They also coordinate the loan of equipment such as breast pumps or CoaguCheks and share information concerning accommodation during the child’s hospitalization.
