Léa was born with a serious heart defect: ALCAPA (abnormal left coronary artery originating from the pulmonary artery). As soon as she was born, she was taken into emergency care and transferred to intensive care at CHEO (Children’s Hospital) in Ottawa on January 1, 2017, at just 5 months old. She was then rushed to CHU Sainte-Justine in Montreal on January 12, 2017. The verdict was in; a diagnosis of heart malformation requiring surgery.

On January 25, 2017, Léa underwent surgery. She entered the operating room at 9:30 a.m. and left at 8 p.m., after a long and complex operation. After the operation, Léa was well and smiling as usual.

On September 25, 2019, Léa suffered a serious heart attack, followed by cardiorespiratory arrest. Her dad had to perform cardiac massage for a minute to bring her back to us. She was rushed to Hull Hospital, then transferred once again to Sainte-Justine Hospital in Montreal. Doctors diagnosed a narrowing of her coronary arteries, a condition like that of her first operation, and the cause of her cardiac arrest. Léa had to undergo further surgery on October 15, 2019. She entered the operating room at 8:30 a.m. and left at 5:30 p.m.

Today, Léa is 8 years old. She enjoys life and is very active: swimming, gymnastics, and she loves riding her bike.
